KENNESAW, Ga. –
Courtney Sutter and
Jessie Mullen each homered during a four-run second inning to spark the Kennesaw State softball team to a 4-3 victory in the nightcap of a doubleheader that helped the Owls gain a split with Jacksonville State Saturday at Bailey Park.
Kennesaw State (22-7) bounced back from a 15-5 loss in game one.
Hannah Thomason, Sutter,
Noelle Winkles and
Olivia Tamewitz collected two hits apiece to lead a 10-hit attack and make a winner out of
Alley Cutting (11-3).
Cutting scatted four hits, allowed one earned run, walked one and struck out nine in pitching her eighth complete game of the season.
Sutter opened the bottom of the second inning with a home run to center, and Winkles followed with a double to right center field, and advanced to third on an infield single by Tamewitz. Winkles scored the second run of the frame on a wild pitch before Mullen capped the inning with a two-run home run to left field.
Jacksonville State (17-8) rallied for three runs in the sixth to make it a one-run game before Cutting worked a perfect seventh inning to close out the Gamecocks.
In the opener, Jacksonville State jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and broke open a 3-2 game with a six-run third inning to take a 9-2 lead.
Thomason led the Owls offensively with two hits and three runs scored.
