CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Rain could not slow down the Kennesaw State softball team.
Â
Once the Owls (6-2) were able to get back on the field after waiting out the rain, redshirt freshman
Alley Cutting turned in her second straight impressive outing in the circle, and was backed by a 10-hit attack as Kennesaw State defeated Connecticut, 5-1, during day two of the Chattanooga Challenge.
Â
One day after striking out 11 batters against IUPUI, Cutting (3-1) scattered six hits, allowed one run and struck out 12 in a complete-game effort against the Huskies (0-2).
Â
The Owls' right-hander was supported by a three-hit performance from freshman
Olivia Tamewitz, and two hits apiece by seniors
Chandler Griffin,
Courtney Sutter and
Taylor Denton. Griffin also connected for her second home run of the season, with a solo blast to lead off the fifth inning.
Â
Kennesaw State took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a leadoff walk and stolen base by
Hannah Thomason, who came around to score on a double by Tamewitz. The Owls added an unearned run in the second, and single runs in the fourth and fifth innings before Griffin collected her second RBI on a double in the seventh.
Â
Kennesaw State closes out tournament play Sunday when it takes on Radford at 9 a.m.
