MBB: Owls Drop In-State Battle to Georgia Southern

Masterson and Scott Both Lead the Way with Over 20 Points Each

KENNESAW, Ga. 
– Kennesaw State got within two points in the second half, but couldn't overcome a double-digit deficit against the Georgia Southern Eagles in the KSU Convocation Center as the Owls fell 78-69 on Tuesday, December 19.
 
After trailing by as many as 16 early in the second half, the Owls got within two points at the eight minute mark after a Kosta Jankovic jumper.
 
Over the next two minutes, the Eagles scored the next six points to push their lead back to eight and KSU couldn't recover.
 
Nick Masterson led the way with 23 points on 8-12 shooting and 6-7 from three-point land. He also had five assists to go with his 23 points. James Scott was second on the team with 21 points.
 
Georgia Southern got off to a fast start in the game scoring the first seven points. The Eagles were led by point Tookie Brown all night as he finished with a game-high 29 points.
 
After falling down as much as 12 points early in the first half, Kennesaw State came back to get within three on a four-point play from Masterson.
 
Georgia Southern closed the first half on a 12-4 run to have a 41-28 lead at the break.
 
KSU shot 56.3 percent in the second half and got the lead down to two, but in the end couldn't take the lead back from the Eagles.
 
Isaac Mbuyamba was a big lift on defense for the Owls securing a team high eight rebounds and having four blocks.
 
The Owls will have one more home game before they get to take a break for the holidays and it will come this Thursday, December 21 against the Samford Bulldogs in the KSU Convocation Center. The game begins at 7 p.m.

  • The Owls fall to 2-2 in the KSU Convocation Center this season with the loss to Georgia Southern. The Eagles are 3-0 all-time against the Owls.
  • This is the first game this season that Kennesaw State has had two 20-point scorers. Masterson led the way with 23 and Scott was right behind him with 21.
  • Masterson not only led the way in scoring, but he was distributing the ball well tonight finishing the game with five assists and he had zero turnovers.
  • Tyler Hooker was the third Owl player in double figures with 13 points. He led the team with six assists and had four steals.
  •  Masterson hit six threes in tonight's game against Georgia Southern. That's a season high for not only Masterson, but also the team.
