KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State, which just concluded a historic season that included a 12-2 record, Big South Conference championship and trip to the FCS Playoffs quarterfinals, announced its 2018 schedule on Wednesday.
The Owls' 11-game schedule includes five contests at Fifth Third Bank Stadium and a match-up against Jacksonville State at the Atlanta Braves' SunTrust Park.
"We're very excited for a challenging schedule in 2018 that features opening the season against FBS in-state opponent Georgia State and three 2017 FCS Playoff teams" head coach
Brian Bohannon said. "I know our team is anxious to get back to work and see Owl Nation pack Fifth Third Bank Stadium and help us build upon our historic 2017 season."
Kennesaw State opens the 2018 campaign on Thursday, Aug. 30 at Georgia State, an FBS program that competes in the Sun Belt, earned a berth into the AutoNation Cure Bowl and plays in newly-renovated Georgia State Stadium. KSU will play the second of two straight road contests on Thursday, Sept. 6, when it travels to Cookeville, Tenn., to face Tennessee Tech.
The Owls' home opener at Fifth Third Bank Stadium is slated for Saturday, Sept. 15 versus Alabama State, marking the first of four consecutive weeks in The Nest. The home stand also includes non-conference games against Clark Atlanta (Sept. 22), Samford (Sept. 29) and the Big South Conference opener versus Presbyterian (Oct. 6).
Kennesaw State's conference schedule continues with three of the next four games on the road as the Owls trek to Gardner-Webb (Oct. 13) and Charleston Southern (Oct. 27), return home to host Campbell (Nov.3) and finish Big South action at Monmouth (Nov. 10) in a rematch of the 2017 conference championship game.
KSU concludes the season as the designated home team when it plays Jacksonville State – a 2017 FCS Playoffs second-round opponent – at SunTrust Park. The November 17 contest between Kennesaw State and Jacksonville State will be the first football game played at the 41,000-seat ballpark that opened in Cobb County last April.
Bohannon led Kennesaw State to a program-record 12-2 overall record and became the first program to advance to the quarterfinals in just its third year of existence. The 12 wins tied a Big South Conference single-season record and its appearance in the FCS Playoffs quarterfinals marked the farthest a KSU team has advanced in the NCAA postseason since moving to the Division I level in 2005-06.
