Game Preview
Kennesaw State volleyball heads into the final weekend of the regular season and will travel to play Stetson in Deland, Florida on Friday night and then FGCU on Saturday.
The Owls head into the final weekend with a one-game lead over Jacksonville in the standings and KSU holds a tie breaker over the Dolphins. With one win this weekend, KSU will clinch at least a share of the ASUN regular season Championship for the second season in a row and the one seed in the ASUN Tournament the following week.
If the Owls clinch the one seed, then they will host the ASUN Tournament in the KSU Convocation Center in 2018.
Kennesaw State Team Notes
• Kennesaw State is having one of its best season's on the court sitting at 17-4 and 11-1 in the ASUN. The Owls are on a current eight game winning streak through conference play.
• Last weekend, the Owls held senior weekend for seven seniors that have meant a lot to the program and KSU finished their last two home matches in style sweeping both North Florida and Jacksonville to finish the season a perfect 10-0 in the KSU Convocation Center. It is the first time in program history that the team has had a perfect record at home.
• Both matches were important last weekend, but the sweep over Jacksonville pushed the Owls one step closer to claiming the ASUN regular season Championship for a second straight season. Since Kennesaw State won the match in three sets, it gives the Owls the tie breaker over the Dolphins. Jacksonville is the one loss for KSU in the ASUN, but it was in four sets.
•
Liesl Engelbrecht won her second career ASUN Defensive Player of the Week award this past week after dominating on the block last weekend. The junior middle blocker totaled 13 blocks on the weekend in six sets with seven against North Florida and six against Jacksonville.
•
Kristi Piedimonte had a tremendous all-around weekend for KSU as well. She averaged 11.0 assists per set while also having 10 kills on the weekend. Against North Florida, she had a career high eight kills. She is second in the ASUN in assists per set averaging 10.37.
• With two more sweeps last weekend, Kennesaw State has 12 on the season. At home, the only two matches that weren't sweeps were the first match against Troy and the five-set match against Lipscomb.
• With all of the wins, KSU has risen up the rankings. The Owls sit at 56 in the RPI out of 331 teams and rank 20th in the mid-major poll.
• Kennesaw State has only won at FGCU once in program history. That was back in 2010, when the Owls finished the regular season 9-1 in the ASUN.
•
Anaiah Boyer leads Kennesaw State with 216 kills and averages 3.32 kills per set. That average per set is good for fifth best in the conference.
Next Up
The Owls will travel to Lipscomb for the ASUN Tournament. The tournament begins on Thursday, November 16, but most likely Kennesaw State's first game will be on Friday, November 17 in the ASUN semis.
