Game Preview
Kennesaw State plays in its first NCAA Tournament on Friday, December 1 against Oregon in Provo, Utah at BYU. The Owls match begins at 6 p.m. ET.
Â
Oregon finished the season 17-11 losing four of their last five matches. They are ranked no. 24 by the AVCA and have been in the rankings all season.
Â
Best Season in School History
Kennesaw State is enjoying its best season in school history finishing with a 21-4 record overall and 13-1 record in the ASUN. Two of those losses came on the road at Kentucky and then Louisville.
Â
The 21 wins is the most in school history. The previous high for wins in a season came in 2015 when the team won 19 matches.
Â
ASUN Tournament Champs
The Owls won their first ASUN Tournament Championship after defeating the host Lipscomb Bison in the semifinals and the FGCU Eagles in the championship match to punch their ticket to the NCAA Tournament.
Â
It was their second ASUN Tournament Championship appearance as a program as they played in the 2015 ASUN Championship a well.
Â
Senior Leadership
The team has 11 upper classmen with seven of those being seniors.
Â
After not making the ASUN Tournament during their freshmen season, they have since been on the best stretch in program history the past three seasons. The Owls are 58-24 overall and 34-8 in ASUN play.
Â
Protecting the Nest
The Owls finished the 2017 season undefeated at home in the KSU Convocation Center for the first time in program history.
Â
KSU was a perfect 10-0 in the nest that included wins over Georgia, Lipscomb and FGCU.
Â
In fact, their win streak is at 12 matches at home as Lipscomb was the last team to defeat them dating back to 2016.
Â
Get the Brooms Out
Kennesaw State didn't waste time in its matches as out of its 21 wins, 14 of those were sweeps.
Â
At home, the team only lost three sets all season in the KSU Convocation Center as Troy won a set in the season opener and Lipscomb won two sets off the Owls.
Â
Climbing in the RPI
With the 21 wins and a schedule that saw the Owls face eight teams in the AVCA 100, Kennesaw State is up to number 43 in the RPI. That is the highest RPI ranking in program history for Kennesaw State.
Â
State Dominance
An emphasis from head coach
Keith Schunzel when he came in was to play as many teams from the state of Georgia as he could.
Â
Over the past three seasons, KSU is a combined 8-2 against teams from the state of Georgia.
Â
Kennesaw State is the only team from the state of Georgia in the NCAA Tournament this season.
