THE STORYLINE:Â
· Kennesaw State clinched the number one seed and at least a share of the regular season championship with a sweep over the Stetson Hatters on Friday, November 10 in Deland, Florida.
Â
It will be the first time ever that KSU has been the one seed heading into the ASUN Tournament. KSU Â owns the tiebreaker with Jacksonville because they beat them in straight sets last weekend.
Â
The Owls will now play FGCU on Saturday night for their first outright championship.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The first set was close, but Kennesaw State had control and won seven of the last nine points to go up 1-0 in the match.
Â
In the second set, Stetson built a 12-8 lead forcing the Owls to use a timeout. KSU wasn't phased though as they ran off seven straight points to take back control of the set leading 15-12. The Owls held that lead the rest of the set to go up 2-0 in the match.
Â
With the one seed in their sights, KSU didn't mess around winning the first five points of the third set. The Owls continued to push their lead out closing out the final set 25-13.
Â
SCHUNZEL QUOTE:
"Tremendously proud of this team and our amazing young women. I'm so happy for them to get rewarded like this because success like we're having doesn't just magically happen. Everyone on our bus knows we have a lot of work left to do this season starting with a huge challenge tomorrow night at Gulf Coast."
