Kennesaw State Team Notes
• Kennesaw State is 13-4 overall and 7-1 in ASUN play sitting in a tie for first with FGCU and Jacksonville. The Owls got a five-set win against Lipscomb last Friday night giving them their first sweep ever in the regular season against the Bisons. It was also the first time Lipscomb has been swept in the regular season since the 2013 season.
• The Owls had
Liesl Engelbrecht and
Rachel Taylor honored by the ASUN after big-time performances at Lipscomb. Engelbrecht was named ASUN Player of the Week after she finished with 14 kills hitting .458 and nine blocks on the night. Taylor won ASUN Defensive Player of the Week after leading the team with 10 blocks. She also had seven killls.
• KSU's physicality at the net really bothered Lipscomb as KSU set a school record with 19 blocks led by Engelbrecht, Taylor and
Sydni Shelton. Taylor led the way with 10 blocks and Engelbrecht and Shelton both had nine in the match.
• Heading into the weekend, Kennesaw State is 4-3 in road matches this season. The team is a perfect 2-0 in Newark, N.J. at NJIT. In Spartanburg, S.C., the Owls have won three matches in a row, but all have been five-set matches. Two of Kennesaw State's road losses this season came at Kentucky and Louisville.
• The offense for the Owls has been spread out this season as four Owls have at least 131 kills. The team is second in the ASUN in hitting percentage at .246 for the season. Last time the Owls played NJIT, they had their second highest hitting percentage ever at .463.
•
Kristi Piedimonte has been a big part of spreading the ball around on offense allowing the Owls to kill the ball efficiently as she is averaging 10.34 assists per set. As a team, KSU averages 12.33 assists per sett.
• As good as the offense has been, Kennesaw State's defense has been even better. The Owls hold their opponents to a .172 hitting percentage which is the lowest in the ASUN. Through eight matches in conference play, Kennesaw State has only been aced eight times.
• Taylor earned her second ASUN Defensive Player of the Week after a huge outing with 10 blocks against Lipscomb. Through ASUN play, she leads the conference with 1.21 blocks per set. With the 10 blocks last weekend, she moves into second place all time in blocks with 230. She is 14 blocks away from setting the all-time block mark at Kennesaw State.
• Two-time ASUN First Teamer
Anaiah Boyer is having another big year for the Owls. She leads the team with 174 kills and is sixth in the conference averaging 3.28 kills per set.
