Game Preview
Five days after beating NJIT 71-65 at Kennesaw State, the Owls will take on the Highlanders in Newark, New Jersey at 7 p.m. on Monday, January 30.
In the first meeting between the two, Kennesaw State trailed the majority of the game until a late 9-0 run put them back out front with 2:47 remaining to clinch the victory. KSU currently sits at 3-4 in the ASUN.
Nation Leaders
Kendrick Ray,
Nick Masterson and
Aubrey Williams hard work in the offseason is showing up on the court as the three of them are among the nation leaders in a couple of statistical categories.
Masterson has been deadly from long range as he has made 65 of 126 for a 51.6 percent clip. That mark leads the nation.
Ray is 12th in the nation averaging 21.7 points per game. He has posted four 30-point performances, 15 20-point performances and has been in double figures in every game this season.
Williams has pulled down 13 double-doubles and is averaging 10.7 rebounds per game. The 13 double-doubles is seventh in the country and the 10.9 rebounds per game is eighth best in the country.
Masterson of the Three
Masterson is averaging 12.5 points per game with a 47.2 percentage from the floor and 51.6 percent from behind the arc, which leads the nation.
Overall, Masterson has already made 62 three pointers this season compared to last year where he only made 31.
He's not only scoring the ball, but setting up his teammates as well. He's second on the team with 67 assists this season, and since conference play started, he's second with an assist to turnover ratio of 3.8.
Smart Outside Shooting
Kennesaw State doesn't shoot a lot of threes, but when they do it's usually a good shot leading to a high shooting percentage from behind the arc. The Owls lead the nation shooting 43.5 percent going 163-375 from three-point range.
In conference play, KSU has been making 8.3 threes per game putting them at the third best mark in the conference. They have made nine threes in six of the seven ASUN games.
Senior Captains
Williams and Ray have been quite the offensive duo this season as they average 34.3 points per game together.
The two kept the Owls in the game early against Jacksonville scoring the first 14 points and for the game combined to score 47 of the 81 points.
