THE STORYLINE:
· Kennesaw State moved to 4-0 at Jacksonville State for the weekend after beating Nicholls State and Louisiana Monroe on Saturday, September 17. Anaiah Boyer led the Owls in kills in both matches as the team moves to 6-8 at the end of non-conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Nicholls State Match: After going 2-0 on Friday, the Owls started Saturday off with a win against Nicholls State. The Owls hit .229 in the match and held Nicholls to .099.

Kennesaw State came out hot, grabbing an 11-5 lead early in the first and kept the pressure on. They didn't let up pushing their lead by as much as 11 and clinching the set 25-14.

In the second set, Kennesaw State built another early lead and cruised to a nine-point lead at 17-8. The Colonels rallied though bringing it to within one on a 9-1 run, but the Owls held them off. Nicholls State fought off three set points, but KSU went up 2-0 in the match on a Maddie Jones kill.

Looking to close out the match, KSU battled Nicholls State in the third grabbing an advantage late. The Colonels once again didn't go away easily, but after two match points Kennesaw State sealed the match on Liesl Engelbrecht's 10th kill of the match.

Louisiana Monroe: The Owls took control of the match right away taking a five-point lead in the first set. Louisiana Monroe forced KSU to take a timeout after cutting the lead to one, but the Owls responded by winning four of the next five points and taking the first set 25-21.

With the second set tight at 14-13, Kennesaw State scored the next five points to distance themselves from the Warhawks and go up 2-0 in the match.

Playing their fourth match in a little over 24 hours, the Owls didn't mess around in the third set taking an early lead and finishing Louisiana Monroe 25-14 to stay undefeated for the weekend..

SCHUNZEL QUOTE
"I'm really proud of what our team accomplished in our pre-conference slate. We played some extremely high level volleyball, competed our hearts out and become an even tougher and closer team in the process.  After the UGA match, we mentally threw our record out the window and refocused on competing every point, improving and getting prepared for conference.  The team wholeheartedly bought into that and I truly have never felt more prepared to compete for an ASUN title than we are right now.  It's a long road and all 14 matches are important, but we're already itching to put on the jersey at Lipscomb next Friday and battle."

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
· Anaiah Boyer had a big weekend leading the Owls in three of the four matches in kills. In the last match, she had 17 kills hitting .400.
· Kristi Piedimonte had two huge matches finishing the day with 76 assists in six sets. She averaged 12.67 assists per set on the day.
