THE STORYLINE: 
· Kennesaw State went 2-0 on the opening day of the Jacksonville State tournament beating Evansville in the morning and the host Jacksonville State in the afternoon. After sweeping the Purple Aces, the Owls beat Jacksonville State 3-1 closing out the final two sets 25-21.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 
Evansville Match: Kennesaw State came out and dominated the Purple Aces from the first serve of the match. The Owls held Evansville to hit .000 for the match and negative in two out of the three sets.
 
Kelly Marcinek and Maddie Jones stepped up for the Owls on the offensive side as Jones led the team with 11 kills and Marcinek 10 kills with zero errors.
 
After going up 2-0 in the match, KSU wasted little time in the third set building a 10-2 lead early and putting away the Purple Aces 3-0.
 
 Jacksonville State: Against the Gamecocks, setter Kristi Piedimonte set a new career with 58 assists in the four sets spreading the ball around. Four different Owls had double-digit kills.
 
After building a big lead early in the first, the Gamecocks found their way back in the match, but KSU used another run to go up by seven and then closed the set out on a Maddie Jones kills.
 
After dropping the second set, KSU finally got some separation from Jacksonville State late in the third going up 20-15. The Owls used that cushion to take the lead in the match on the Gamecocks home floor.
 
Kennesaw State found themselves in a hole early in the fourth set, but responded with a 12-2 run to take a 14-9 lead. Jacksonville State tried to fight their way back, but the Owls wouldn't let them closing out the match in four.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 
· The 58 assists that Kristi Piedimonte had against Jacksonville State was a career high for the junior.
· Kelly Marcinek had double-digit kills in both matches today finishing with 10 against Evansville and 13 against Jacksonville State.
· Anaiah Boyer continued her strong play today finishing the day with 25 kills and 33 digs.
- Kennesaw State had four player reach double-figures in kills in the match against Jacksonville State as Boyer had 17, Engelbrecht and Marcinek both had 13 and Jones had 10.

Kennesaw State has two more matches at Jacksonville State tomorrow against Nicholls and Louisiana Monroe. The matches will be at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. eastern.
