ATHENS, Ga. – A solid overall effort came up just short as Georgia scored a late second-half goal to edge Kennesaw State, 1-0, in a women's soccer match Sunday night in Athens.

After a scoreless first half, the two teams had to wait out nearly an hour and a half weather delay before play resumed.

Kennesaw State (4-3-1) withstood an attacking Georgia (3-4-1) team, receiving strong play from its backline an outstanding goalkeeping by junior
Ashley Zambetti.

The Bulldogs finally broke through when Taylor Donohue converted a shot from the top of the box that found the upper left corner of the goal with just under 16 minutes remaining in regulation.

"They're an athletic team, very organized and have a lot of speed up top," head coach
Benji Walton said. "It's tough to lose any game, but I was proud of the fight. We continue to tell the team that we are preparing ourselves for the conference, and games like this against a talented Georgia team is going to get us ready for ASUN play. It was a good test for our girls and definitely a game we can build upon and hopefully gain some momentum as we move forward."

Two Early Saves by Zambetti:Â Junior goalkeeper
Ashley Zambetti came up with two big saves within the first 10 minutes of the match to keep it a scoreless tie. Overall she faced 24 shots, including 14 on-goal and recorded 13 saves.

Bulldogs Score: Georgia broke a scoreless tie when Taylor Donohue scored from the top of the box to score the game-winner at the 74:24 mark.

 * Georgia outshot Kennesaw State, 24-10, in shots, including 14-8 in shots on-goal. The Bulldogs also held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Owls return to action on Friday (Sept. 16) when they travel to Birmingham, Ala. to take on Samford in a match that begins at 8 p.m. (ET).
