NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Senior
Megan Veringa collected her 100th career RBI and three freshmen had two RBIs apiece as Kennesaw State defeated Tennessee State, 10-1, Thursday (April 7) at Tiger Field in Nashville.
Veringa's RBI single in the fourth inning tied the game at 1-1, and freshmen
Jenna Kniss,
Anastasia Villanueva and
Kira Czyrklis had two-run scoring hits for the Owls (22-16).
Hillary Kartman had two hits and an RBI, and
Rachel Dennis collected two hits and scored twice to pace Kennesaw State's 12-hit attack.
The Owls' offensive production made a winner out of
Morgan Sikes (9-4), who worked five innings, allowed three hits, a run and struck out two. Kniss came on to pitch two scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out two.
After falling behind 1-0 in the bottom of third, the Owls took the lead in the top half of the fourth scoring twice on an RBI single by Veringa and run-scoring double by Kartman after
Courtney Sutter doubled with one out.
The Owls bats came alive in the final two innings as they scored five runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh as they collected eight hits over the final two frames.

zyrklis,
Emily Bishop and Kniss. Villanueva had the big hit in the seventh inning as she drilled a two-run single for her first career hit and RBIs.
The Owls will next be in action on Tuesday (April 12) when they host Georgia Tech in the Ninth Annual Lexi's Day game at Bailey Park beginning at 6 p.m. The Kennesaw State softball program partners with the Alexis Kaiser Foundation in an effort to assist local young people who suffer with a neuromuscular disease. For a $10 donation, fans attending the game will receive a meal from the Marietta Fish Market with their contribution going to the Alexis Kaiser Foundation.

Taylor Denton and
Noelle Winkles. Kennesaw State, which ranks among the top 10 in the country in stolen bases, have swiping 102 stolen bases in 119 attempts.

Taylor Denton and senior
Kara Chambers have led the running game while establishing single-season career-highs. Denton is 24-for-25, while Chambers is 22-for-26. The duo also ranks second and third, respectively, on Kennesaw State's all-time career charts as Denton has 54 career stolen bases and Chambers has 52. Jennifer Hunt (2003-06) is KSU's career leader with 60.
