Game Preview
Kennesaw State will head to Greenville, South Carolina to face Furman in the final game of the regular season on Wednesday, April 27 at 4 p.m. This will be the third meeting between the two teams.
Last season, Furman topped KSU twice as they played once in the regular season and in the A-Sun tournament.
The Paladins are currently 9-6 and are tied for third in the standings at 4-2 going into the final week of the regular season.
After this past weekend's games, Kennesaw State has clinched the six seed in the A-Sun tournament, and there is a chance that the teams could play again in the quarterfinals of the tournament on Thursday, May 5.
Kennesaw State Team Notes
• Over the weekend, KSU defeated Central Michigan in the first meeting between the teams 13-9. The Owls used a 5-1 run over the final ten minutes to secure the victory at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
• The Kennesaw State defense held the Chippewas to nine goals. It was the third time this season that the team has held a team to single-digit goals and the fifth time in program history.
• The Owls offense has started to hit its stride late in the season as the team has scored in double figures in three of its last four games.
• A big reason that the offense has been clicking so well lately has been the play of
Olivia Hokanson. The Owls leading goal scorer tallied nine more goals last weekend with three against Central Michigan and a season high six against Detroit. The nine goals gives her 41 for the year. She is three goals away from setting a Kennesaw State single-season record and two away from tying her personal high of 43 goals in a season in 2014.
• Junior midfielder
Taylor McGhee had arguably her best weekend of the season scoring six goals against Central Michigan and Detroit and won seven draw controls against Detroit. McGhee got off to a slow start at the beginning of the year, but has heated up at the end scoring goals in six straight games.
• Freshman
Shannon Moore had her best game as an Owl scoring three huge goals against Central Michigan. She set a career high and it is the second game this season she has had a multi-goal game.
•
Laura Jordan has been a staple on defense leading the team with 23 caused turnovers. Out of the 23 she has on the season, 13 have come in conference play. This past weekend against Central Michigan she set a career high with four.
• Sunday's game against Detroit lasted two hours and twenty five minutes. That's the longest game in Kennesaw State history by one minute. Against Stetson in 2014, the game lasted two hours and twenty four minutes.
Next Up
The Owls look forward to hosting the 2016 Atlantic Sun Championship that begins on Thursday, May 5 at 1 p.m.
