Men's All-Academic Team A-Sun Release | Women's All-Academic Team A-Sun Release
KENNESAW, Ga. – Three athletes on the Kennesaw State men and women's track and field teams have been named to the Atlantic Sun Indoor Academic All-Conference teams the conference announced Tuesday.
Daniel McKune, and
Joseph Yates were named to the team on the men's side and
Kidan Kidane was named to the team on the women's side.
"I talk with our student-athletes on a regular basis that it's an embarrassment if someone is a champion in athletics but they're a chump in the classroom or community, or if they lack class or character," Director of Track and Field and Cross Country
Andy Eggerth said. "It's very important to me that our young men and women mature as valuable community members, so I take great pride in their accomplishments off the track. What Joe, Dan, and Kidan have done, earning All-Academic, is a major part of what we're all about. I'm very proud of them and offer them my most sincere congratulations!"
McKune has a 3.65 GPA majoring in sports management. At the A-Sun Championships, He finished third in the weight throw (15.17m, 49'9.25) and fourth in the shot put with a toss of 14.43m (44'0.75) which was third farthest in the conference this season. His best weight throw of the year came at the Thundering Herd Invitational with a throw of 15.67m (49'9.25) which was also good for third farthest in the conference this season.
Yates holds a 3.81 GPA in finance. He was named Co-Scholar Athlete of the Year on the men's side. He finished second in the heptathlon (4344 points) and third in the pole vault (4.31m, 14'1.75) at the A-Sun Championships.
Kidane, who holds a 3.51 GPA while majoring in exercise science, Ran the one mile run, the 3000m, and 5000m a total of 10 times never finishing worse than fourth place. Kidane, took home two gold's and a silver medal at the Championships. She won the 3000m in a new school record time of 9:47.56 winning by nearly five seconds. The junior won her second goal medal in the one mile run shattering the previous school record with a time of 4:51.93. She set her third school record of the weekend in the 5000m with a time of 16:52.5 to finish second.
