THE STORYLINE: · Mercer scored in six different frames in Sunday's series finale, taking an 11-5 final over Kennesaw State at Claude Smith Field.
· The Bears lit up three innings for two or more runs, and totaled nine runs over a four-inning span to put the game out of reach.
· KSU's top three hitters (
Chris Erwin,
Jeremy Howell and
Austin Upshaw) went a combined 5-for-14 (.357) with three RBI in the game.
· The loss dropped the Owls to 7-13 overall, while the Bears improved 12-8 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED: · Mercer's offense continued to produce over the weekend, totaling 11 runs on 10 hits.
· The Bears scored in six of their eight frames in Sunday's series finale, and never trailed in the contest.
· The Owls tied the ballgame at 4-4 in the top of the fifth, coming off a two-run home run from sophomore
Austin Upshaw. It was the first time in 14 games Upshaw went deep.
· An RBI single off the bat of
Jeremy Howell brought the Owls with 7-5 in the top half of the seventh, giving the Dallas, Ga., native his ninth RBI of the season.
· However, after loading the bases in the seventh, Kennesaw State could not manage to cross home plate anymore, leaving the bases juiced in a key half inning.
· Three Kennesaw State errors led to four unearned runs in the seventh inning, allowing Mercer to extend its lead to 11-5.

Jordan Versteeg made his third appearance of the season, working a scoreless eighth inning allowing no hits and just one walk.

Austin Upshaw produced his team-leading fifth home run of the season in the fifth inning, marking his first since Feb. 27.

AJ Moore made his fifth start of the season and struck out nine batters – the same total of punch outs the sophomore recorded a year ago at Mercer.
