BSB: 12 Hits Not Enough In 9-6 Loss To Mercer

Jordan Getzelman tallied two extra base hits, including his first home run on the day.

THE STORYLINE: 
· Mercer broke a 6-6 tie with three runs in the top of the eighth, boosting the Bears past Kennesaw State, 9-6, at Stillwell Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
· Hitting proved to the story of the ballgame, as the two clubs combined for 15 runs on 26 hits.
· In the contest, both Kennesaw State and Mercer scattered 23 singles and totaled just three extra base hits.
· The loss dropped the Owls to 7-12 overall, while the Bears improved 11-8 on the season.  

HOW IT HAPPENED: 
· The Owls trailed by two and three runs over the course of the game, but tied the tilt up at 6-6 with an RBI single off the bat of senior Brennan Morgan in the bottom half of the seventh frame.
· The game-tying RBI single in the eighth was set-up when junior transfer Getzelman hit his first home run of the season to pull KSU within 6-5 in the bottom half of the sixth.
· Mercer led 5-2 heading into the bottom of the fifth, but the Owls scored in three straight frames to pull even with the Bears.
· The Bears, however, fought off the rally with a decisive three-run eighth inning to pull away from the Owls for good.  
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 
· Jordan Getzelman recorded his first home run in an Owl uniform.  
· Getzelman recorded the Owls' two extra base hits in the game, recording a double and home run.
· The Owls produces double-figure hits in a single game for the seventh time over the last nine games.
 
UP NEXT
 The Owls hit the pavement and travel to Macon, Ga., taking on the Bears of Mercer University in the third and final game of the non-conference weekend series. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
