Final Heptathlon Results
Birmingham, Ala. - Bilal Abdullah wrapped up another very successful indoor season for the Kennesaw State men's track team as he finished up the final three events of the heptathlon inside the Birmingham Crossplex on March.12.
Abdullah finished sixth overall and earned First Team All-American honors for the second season in a row joining
Andre Dorsey, who was named a Second Team All-American in 2013, 2014, and 2015 as the only two All-Americans in Kennesaw State men's indoor division one track history.
"Today our goal was for Bilal to refocus, get his mind right, and finish with three strong performances," Director of Track and Field and Cross Country
Andy Eggerth said. "He came out and set a lifetime best and school record while winning the 60m-hurdles. He then came back and tied his personal best in the 60m and a good time in the 1k. Today was a great day for Bilal and 5900 points is a great score."
Adullah, who scored 5,900 points in the event, opened day two by winning the 60m hurdles with a school heptathlon record time of 7.86 seconds, breaking his school record previously established at the 2015 NCAA Indoor Championships.
"I was surprised by the time I ran in the 60m hurdles," Abdullah said "I knew I was running fast, but I did not feel like it was school record fast until I finished and looked up at the board and saw my time."
The senior followed that up by tying his season-best pole vault with a vault of 4.70m (14'11) to finish eighth in the event. The vault was good enough to tie for the sixth-highest mark in school history. He closed out the day with a time 2:54.85 in the 1,000m run.
"The pole vault was where my hamstring started to tighten up, Abdullah said. "So I was trying not to tear it so I would be able to run the 1k and be able to compete during the outdoor season. I was able to tie my personal best in the pole vault so that's a big blessing." The 1k race was a mind game. I was running on pure adrenaline and knew I just needed to finish which I am glad I was able to."
The Owls will now have six days to prepare for the outdoor season which begins on Friday (Mar.18) at the Emory Invitational in Atlanta, Georgia.
