Bilal Abdullah and
Joshua Mulder of the Kennesaw State men's track and field team completed the first day of the heptathlon at the New Mexico Collegiate on Friday February 5 at the New Mexico Convention Center.
"Bilal and Josh both had great days today," Director of Track and Field and Cross Country
Andy Eggerth said. "They have put themselves in great position for tomorrow."
Abdullah, who won the heptathlon at the Gladstein Invitation on January 22, sits in first place after day one with 3405 points. He leads 300 points over the next collegiate athlete in the field heading in to day two. He opened his day with a win in the 60m with a time of 6.89 second which is tied for second fastest in school heptathlon history. He jumped 7.75m (25'5.25) to win the long jump. His only struggle came in the shot put which he finished ninth with a toss of 11.73m (38'6). He closed out his big first day finishing as the top in the high jump with a leap of 2.10m (6'10.75) .
Mulder scored 2908 points on day one of the event which is good for fifth place. After a seventh place finish in the 60m in 7.30 seconds, Mulder finished fifth in the long lump leaping 6.94m (22'9.25). He would grab eighth in the shot put after tossing 11.73m (38.6). He would close out the day clearing 1.92m (6'3.5) in the high jump to tie for ninth.
Mulder and Abdullah will be back in action for the second day of the heptathlon at the
New Mexico Collegiate on Friday February 5 at the New Mexico Convention Center.
