WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The No. 26 ranked Kennesaw State men's track and field team won its fifth consecutive Atlantic Sun Conference Indoor Track Championship on Saturday after collecting 15 medals, seven event wins and scoring 155 points on the final day of the meet at the JDL Fast Track.

Kennesaw State scored a conference indoor record 229 points, which was 108 points ahead of second place North Florida, posting the largest margin of victory in conference history. The Owls also captured their conference-record seventh indoor team championship.

"The men had many outstanding performances today and a well earned championship," director of track and field and cross country Andy Eggerth said. "The tough thing is it take years to develop the level of student-athletes to the level were currently at, and we lose a tremendous senior class at the end of the season. Our underclassmen are going to have to mature quickly if we are going to win again next year."

Bilal Abdullah led the way as he earned the A-Sun Championship Most Valuable Performer honors for the first time scoring 41 points in the two-day meet. He collected a win in the 60m dash (6.97) and a pair of second place finishes in the triple jump (14.18m), high jump (2.10m) and the 4x400 relay (3:25.02).

"Sometimes we think it is a given that we will win this or we have to get that as if its inevitable," Abdullah said. "I learned the hard way today to never get comfortable thinking that way; Allah is and will always be in control of every little or big thing that happens. It's the perfect awakening though before the big meet in two weeks. I am still very grateful for just being able to have another conference, my performances, my coaches, the staff and my entire team."

Joshua Mulder won the heptathlon scoring 5394 points. Mulder collected a win in the 60m hurdles in 8.1 secods, the pole vault after clearing 4.45m ( 14-7.25) and the 1000m race in 2:53.84. Senior Joseph Yates grabbed the silver medal scoring 4384 points in the event.

In the field events, Martynas Sedys won his fourth consecutive conference title in the weight throw with a toss of 18.60m (61'0.25) with junior Fabeon Tucker and sophomore Daniel McKune joining Sedys on the medal stand. Freshman Dayo Akindele won the triple jump after leaping 14.84m (48-8.25). Including the heptathlon results, the Owls scored a total of 82 points in the field events on Saturday.

On the track, the Owls collected 75 points on Saturday afternoon. In the first running event of the afternoon, Terrell Singleton finished second in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.02 with Akindele finishing third in 8.15 seconds.

The speed would really come on display in the 60m dash as Abdullah (6.97), David Stevenson (6.98) and Sean Blassingame (6.99) would sweep the top three places in the event.

KSU won 19 points in the 200m dash. Blassingame won his lone gold medal with a time of 22.32. Singleton was second finishing just behind Blassingame in 22.50.

In the final men's event of the day, the 4x400m relay team of Blassingame, Noel Rhymer, Mulder and Abdullah grabbed second after a very strong finish by Abdullah with a time of 3:18.01 to win the event and close out the meet.

Abdullah will compete in the long jump and the heptathlon at the NCAA Indoor Championships at the Crossplex in Birmingham, Alabama on March 11-12. The rest of the Owls will now turn their focus and start preparing for their outdoor season that starts on March 18-19 at the Emory Invitational in Atlanta, Georgia.
