FORT MYERS, Fla. – Kennesaw State battled with Florida Gulf Coast for 40 minutes, but came out on the short end as the Eagles ended up winning the game 68-63 in front of a sold out Alico Arena on Saturday, February 20.

With five seconds left in the game, Kendrick Ray fired a three that was on line, but came up short. The ball went out of bounds and was originally given to the Owls, but after a video review by the officials, the call was reversed and the ball was given to Gulf Coast, ending KSU's chances at tying up the game again.

Ray led all scorers in the game with 25 points. He also pulled down seven rebounds in the game for the Owls.

In the first half, both teams were playing stout defense limiting the other team's chances on the offensive end. The largest lead came with FGCU up six, but Kennesaw State edged out in front of the Eagles for a 29-26 lead at the half. The Owls held FGCU to 38.1 percent from the floor in the first half.

The offense picked up for both teams in the second half, but neither team could get any separation from the other as there were seven lead changes and five ties in the final 20 minutes.

Ray scored 18 of his 25 points in the second half keeping the Owls in the game and giving them the chance to force overtime at the end.

The loss to FGCU snaps the Owls three game-winning streak. There is one game left in the regular season against the Lipscomb Bisons in Nashville, Tennessee this Thursday, February 25 at 7:30 p.m.

On the Final Play
"That's the play we run and the shot that we wanted. He got it and felt comfortable taking it. He's made those many times, so I'm very pleased with the shot. Offensively, we didn't shoot the ball as well as we have in past games. Your offense has to be a little more efficient on the road if you expect to win a game like this."
Kennesaw State Head Coach Al Skinner
