The Owls (1-11) ran up against a talented Musketeers (8-3) team that had the hot hand, connecting on 47.7 percent (31-for-65) of its field goal attempts and recording a 40-18 advantage in points in the paint.

A big second quarter allowed the Musketeers to turn an 18-15 lead after the first quarter into a 43-26 halftime advantage as they outscored the Owls, 25-11. Xavier finished the first half shooting 50 percent (18-for-36) from the field, while Kennesaw State was 8-for-29 (27.6).

The Musketeers extended their lead to 61-37 at the end of the third quarter, before the Owls, emulating the characteristic of their head coach, Agnus Berenato, fought hard to the end and outscored Xavier, 15-14, in the fourth quarter.

"This tournament allowed us to improve everyday," Berenato said. "I am happy with the team's effort, and they have not stopped fighting and learning. I look forward to the break, as do the players. However, the opportunity to play three quality opponents will prove to be beneficial in the new year."
