LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Freshman
Carlotta Gianolla recorded her first career double-double, scoring 10 points and adding 10 rebounds, to lead Kennesaw State during a 75-52 loss to Xavier on Wednesday (Dec. 21) during the final day of the Puerto Rico Classic at the South Point Arena in Las Vegas.
The Owls (1-11) ran up against a talented Musketeers (8-3) team that had the hot hand, connecting on 47.7 percent (31-for-65) of its field goal attempts and recording a 40-18 advantage in points in the paint.
A big second quarter allowed the Musketeers to turn an 18-15 lead after the first quarter into a 43-26 halftime advantage as they outscored the Owls, 25-11. Xavier finished the first half shooting 50 percent (18-for-36) from the field, while Kennesaw State was 8-for-29 (27.6).
The Musketeers extended their lead to 61-37 at the end of the third quarter, before the Owls, emulating the characteristic of their head coach,
Agnus Berenato, fought hard to the end and outscored Xavier, 15-14, in the fourth quarter.
"This tournament allowed us to improve everyday," Berenato said. "I am happy with the team's effort, and they have not stopped fighting and learning. I look forward to the break, as do the players. However, the opportunity to play three quality opponents will prove to be beneficial in the new year."

The Owls will take a break for Christmas and New Year's before returning to action on Jan. 2 when they host Wofford at the KSU Convocation Center beginning at 2 p.m. (ET).
