Game Preview
After a long road trip, Kennesaw State returns home to play N.C. A&T in the KSU Convocation Center to finish off the Gotham Classic. Both teams are 0-3 in the tournament.
Tough Road Trip
The Owls are coming off of an eight day road trip that saw them play in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, Amherst, Massachusetts and Stockton, California with a quick turnaround tomorrow after playing Pacific at 10 p.m. ET last night. To make things even tougher, four KSU players had their suit cases stolen from underneath the bus while the game against the Tigers was going on.
Leaders in the Nation
Seniors
Kendrick Ray and
Aubrey Williams are both leading the Owls on the court this season as well as top 10 in the nation in a couple of statistical categories.
After posting another career high in scoring with 35 points against UMass, Ray is sixth in the nation averaging 23.0 points per game. He has posted three 30-point performances, eight 20-point performances and has been in double figures in all 12 games this season.
Williams has been a force on the boards grabbing 10.8 per game putting him 14th in the country. He has six double-doubles this season already. His career high came against Brewton Parker earlier in the season when he pulled down 20.
Closing in on 400
Head Coach
Al Skinner is close to a career milestone as he currently sits on win 399 after defeating Florida A&M. Career wins wise, Coach Skinner has the second most in the ASUN only behind Eddie Payne of USC Upstate, who has 476 career victories.
Rough Early Schedule
KSU's early schedule has been a grind as only three of the first 12 games have been at home. Fortunately, the Owls are 2-1 in the KSU Convocation Center.
1,000 Career Points
After setting a single-season record with 579 points in his first season at Kennesaw State, Ray is closing in on 1,000 career points after 12 games this season.
In his career at KSU and Quinnipiac, Ray has accumulated 942 points with 855 coming at KSU and 87 happening at Quinnipiac.
Leading the ASUN
For the season, Ray is leading the ASUN averaging 23.0 points per game. He has scored 30-plus points three times this season against UMBC, Alabama State and UMass has 20 points in eight of the 12 games.
Against UMass, Ray was on fire going 11-17 from the floor and 9-9 from the free throw line. He also led the team with four assists.
The 35 points was one shy of tying a Kennesaw State single-season record set a couple seasons ago by
Yonel Brown.
Dynamic Offensive Duo
After Ray and
Yonel Brown were the most potent duo on the offense last season averaging over 37 points between them, Masterson has filled in that roll this season.
Him and Ray are leading the conference as the top scoring duo in the league. Between the two, they are averaging 35.2 points per game.
Out of the 69 threes that the team has made, these two have hit 64 of them.
