Kennesaw State Team Notes
• Finishing the league at 12-2, Kennesaw State claimed a share of the ASUN regular season title for the first time in volleyball's history.
• Kennesaw State enters the ASUN tournament as the number two seed. Since the current six-team single-elimination tournament began in 1999, four number two seeds have won the tournament. The most recent was Lipscomb in 2011.
• KSU had four players get honored on Wednesday night at the banquet.
Katarina Morton was named ASUN Defensive Player of the Year and voted onto First Team All-Conference. Kristi Piedmonte was named to the First team, while also being selected onto the All-Academic team.
Anaiah Boyer was the third member of the Owls that was picked for First Team All-Conference. Liesl Englebrecht was honored for her sophomore season by being named Second Team All-Conference.
• Morton became the first player in school history to ever win the ASUN Defensive Player of the Year Award. She joins
Kelly Marcinek as only the second Owl to win one of the three major player of the year awards. Morton led the ASUN with a KSU single-season record of 540 digs and 5.09 digs per and ranks 26th nationally in digs per set and 31st in total digs.
• Boyer became the first player in Kennesaw State history to earn a spot on the ASUN First Team All-Conference two times. She finished third in the conference with 3.41 kills per set and fourth overall with a career-high 361 kills. Her 361 kills are sixth-most in a season in program history, while her 3.41 kills per set are fourth most in a season.
• Over the weekend,
Kristi Piedimonte became the second Owl is program history to reach the 3,000 career assist mark. Her 1115 assists and 10.62 assists per set are second in the ASUN this season earning her ASUN First Team All-Conference Honors. Piedimonte ranks 31st in total assist and 52nd in assist per set nationally.
• This season, Piedimonte has topped the 1,000 assists mark, Morton has hit 500 digs and
Anaiah Boyer has over 300 kills. This has only happened one other time in school history and that was in 2012. That year, Sara Metroka had 1,201 assists, Camille Pedraza had 513 digs and Turea Jones had 371 kills.
• The Owls have two players that are the active ASUN leaders in kills and digs. Marcinek leads the ASUN with 1,120 kills and is second all-time at Kennesaw State, and Morton is the active leader in digs with 1,415.
• Earlier in the season,
Anaiah Boyer had a streak of four straight ASUN weekly awards. The first week she was named Defensive Player of the Week and then won Player of the Week for three straight weeks. She was the first player to win three straight since Kelly Paiva of Florida Atlantic did it in 2005.
• Barely leaving the court playing all six rotations, Boyer leads the team in kills with 361, second on the team in blocks with 71.0 and second on the team in digs with 258. She leads the team with 12 double-doubles this season.
