JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Senior
Kim Fincher scored four minutes into overtime to lift the Kennesaw State women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Jacksonville Sunday afternoon in Jacksonville, Fla.
Â
After the Dolphins (3-8-1, 2-1) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute, the Owls (7-5-1, 2-1-0) quickly responded with a goal by
Jessica Sexton to tie the score, and then played solid defense before Fincher ended the match with a goal in overtime.
BENJI BITES
"This was a good character-builder. Jacksonville is a very good team and we knew we were going to have our work cut out for us," head coach
Benji Walton said. "Both teams came out playing really well, and they really attacked us in the first half and scored to put us on the ropes.
Â
"Our mentality after they scored was now we will see what we are made of," Walton added. "I was really proud of the team and the way it kept its composure. Our bench was the difference, Jessica (Sexton) came in and really stayed calm after the goalie save on
Shannon Driscoll's shot and made that goal to tie the score."
Â
WALTON ON TWO ROAD WINS
"I'm really proud of the girls. They really fought and these were true team wins. We've been talking a lot about playing on the road and that you have to focus more on the road. To get two conference wins on the road is big and I'm proud of how the girls kept their composure. Our seniors showed great leadership and I think that made the difference."
