Game Preview
The Kennesaw State women's soccer team heads back out on the road this weekend when it travels to Newark, N.J., to play NJIT in a key ASUN Conference match Saturday (Oct. 15) at 1 p.m. (ET).
 
With two matches remaining in the regular season, the Owls (7-7-1, 2-3-0) are tied for fourth place with North Florida and NJIT. All three teams have six points. The top six teams in the eight-team conference will advance to the ASUN Tournament, with the top two teams earning byes into the second round and the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds hosting first-round matches.
 
 Story Line
• With a win over NJIT (6-7-2, 2-3-0) and a Jacksonville loss or tie, Kennesaw State will secure a berth in the ASUN Tournament, based on the Owls' victory over the Highlanders. 
 
• KSU, which has surpassed its win total from a year ago, is seeking its fifth consecutive ASUN Tournament appearance. The Owls hosted Stetson last season at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
 
Scouting NJIT
• The Highlanders are coming off a 1-0 home victory over Jacksonville last weekend. NJIT is led by sophomores Melanie Zrno and Neema Liverpool, who have totaled 10 points each.
 
Series Versus NJIT
• Saturday's contest will mark the second meeting between Kennesaw State and NJIT, and the Owls lead the series, 1-0, after recording a 6-1 victory last season at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.  
 
Weekend Review
•  The Owls concluded their regular-season home schedule last weekend with a pair of home losses to Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson.
 • Kennesaw State battled six-time defending ASUN Conference regular-season champion Florida Gulf Coast even for 76 minutes before the reigning two-time defending conference tournament champions scored a late goal to post a 2-1 victory last Friday afternoon at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
• With the match tied 1-1 in the 77th minute, FGCU (9-4-0, 3-0-0) took its first lead when senior forward Tabby Tindell, the ASUN's all-time leading goal scorer and points leader, settled a ball in traffic in front of the goal and scored the game-winner.
• Juniors Ida Hepsoe and Mady Carter had first-half highlights for Kennesaw State as Hepsoe put the Owls on the scoreboard early, scoring in the seventh minute. Carter came up big and helped KSU take a lead into halftime, when she saved a free kick attempt from Tindell in the 37th minute.
• The lone goal of the match came in the 40th minute when Adrianna Suarez position herself inside the box and was able to finish after being assisted by Anette Morton and Hailey Williams.
 
2016 Honors
• Junior defender Abby Roth was named the ASUN Conference's Defensive Player of the Week for the week of August 29.
 
Kennesaw State Team Notes
• Senior Kim Fincher leads the Owls and ranks third in the ASUN with 15 points (5 goals, 5 assists). Senior Shannon Driscoll is second on the club and tied for fourth in the conference with 14 points (5 goals, 4 assists).
•The senior trio of Cassidy Kemp, Driscoll and Fincher are tied for the team lead with five goals. 
 
Next Up
The Owls close out their 2016 regular season schedule on Sunday, Oct. 22, when they travel to Spartanburg, S.C. to take on USC Upstate at 1 p.m.
