SCOUTING USC UPSTATE                              
USC Upstate is currently 8-16 and 2-5 in the Atlantic Sun standings.
 
The Spartans have had to fill some big shoes as Lou Henson award winner and A-Sun Player of the Year, Ty Greene, graduated after last season.
 
This year, the Spartans are led by freshman Deion Holmes, who is averaging 13.2 points per game. The other Upstate player averaging in double figures is Michael Buchanan. He's averaging 10.7 ppg.
 
Buchanan is leading the team in rebounds with 5.3 per game.
 
The Spartans are led by Eddie Payne. He's in his 14th year as head coach.
 
THE ALL-TIME SERIES VERSUS USC UPSTATE
Five days ago, Kennesaw State snapped a four game losing streak to the Spartans in a 78-75 win in Spartanburg, S.C.
 
Racking up the Minutes
Yonel Brown not only leads the Owls in minutes, playing 899 on the season, but he leads the nation averaging 39.1 minutes per game. He has played all 40 minutes in 15 of the 23 games this season, and he played 42 minutes in the overtime game against Elon.
 
30-Point Performances
There have been seven A-Sun players with 30-point games this season and Kennesaw State has two of them through the team's 21 games.
 
Brown and Kendrick Ray have combined for five 30-point performances this season. Brown has had three as he scored 34 against Alabama, 31 against Elon and 34 against Stetson. Ray has had two 30-point games scoring 30 against Mercer and 31 against FGCU.
 
Bench Stepping Up
Early in the game against NJIT, Kennesaw State fell behind by 19. With the bench players inserted into the game, they provided a spark that led KSU on a 16-0 run to get back within three points. In the first half, the bench players scored 19 of the 29 points for the Owls.
