KENNESAW, Ga. – Yonel Brown matched his season high with 34 points against Stetson, but Kennesaw State couldn't overcome a second half double-digit deficit to fall to the Hatters 84-79 in the KSU Convocation Center on Saturday, January 23.

Brown scored 19 of his 34 in the second half. It is the third time this season and fifth time in his career he has topped the 30-point mark.

The Owls jumped out to a nine-point lead in the first half after Kyle Clarke fed Aubrey Williams on a no look pass on a fast break and a Kendrick Ray three pointer with 8:19 remaining in the first half.

After that, the Hatters chipped away and both teams ended up going into the locker room tied at 39.

Out of the break, Stetson came out playing hard and went on a quick 12-3 run to go up by 10.

After falling down by as many as 15, Brown and Ray got KSU within three, but their comeback ran out of time as the Hatters sealed the game 84-79 by making two free throws with under five second to go.

The Owls record is now 5-16 and they are 1-4 in the A-Sun as they will travel to Spartanburg, South Carolina to play USC Upstate on Wednesday, January 27 at 7 p.m.

Coach Skinner on having a Third Scorer Step Up
"The last couple of games we haven't had it. There is no question about it. We need that. Whether it's from Bernard, Nick, Nigel, or Kyle, we need that third option. We're lacking that right now. These games that we've lost, we have not had that. Guys just have to come in and give us a lift. I thought Bernard had some good looks to start the game, but unfortunately he missed those and then got in foul trouble. He contested a couple of shots and they called fouls. That didn't allow him to get his rhythm. People are really concentrating on Nick. Nick really has to push himself to get open and get some looks at the basket, but we need a third scorer. It doesn't matter where it comes from. We'll continue to run the same offense, but we just need some guys to put the ball in the basket."
