Bilal Abdullah took home the a win in the heptathlon as he and teammate
Joshua Mulder finished up at the Gladstein Invitational inside the Gladstein Fieldhouse at Indiana University on January 23.
"Bilal and Josh both competed well today," Director of Track and Field and Cross Country
Andy Eggerth said. "The timing system was not working right for the hurdles and both heats had to be rerun but they both put together decent marks. The pole is an area Bilal struggles with but he was able to put it together and jump a personal best of 15 feet. Mulder also had a solid 15' jump. They both struggled in the 1K but we had already planned to continue to work on that. "
Abdullah won the event with 5688 points. That score is good for second most points in school heptathlon history and second best in the nation currently. He opened his day with a win in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.04 seconds which is second fastest in school heptathlon history. He cleared 4.60m (15'1) to finish tied for third in the pole vault. With a solid overall lead in hand he finished ninth in the 1000m run in 2:59.12.
Mulder finished the event with 5303 points which was good for fifth most in school history and 10
th best in the country this season. He was the second collegian overall in the 60m hurdles after crossing the line in 8.29 seconds. He would tie with Abdullah for third in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.60m (15'1). He ran 2:53.67 to be the third fastest collegian in the 1000m run.
