Bloomington, Ind.- Jordan Gray,
De'Von Johnson and
Shakedra Robinson of the Kennesaw State women's track and field team competed in the pentathlon at the Gladstein Invitational on Friday January 22 at the IU Gladstein Fieldhouse.
"I am glad we got this pentathlon in before the Atlantic Sun Championships," Director of Track and Field and Cross Country
Andy Eggerth said. "We saw several good things and many areas that we can improve in. All-in-all it was a successful event with all three of our women finishing in the top five, but there is a lot more in the tank."
Gray was the Owls top finisher scoring 3497 points which was good for second overall in the event. The score of 3497 points is third most in school history and is currently 27
th best in the country this season. Gray opened her day finishing fourth in the 60m hurdles in 9.13 seconds. She tied for the win the in the high jump with Robinson after a clearance of 1.65m (5'5). The sophomore grabbed a third place a finish in the shot put with a toss of 11.41m (37'5.25). She closed out the day with a fourth place finish in the long jump with a leap of 5.41m (17'9).
Johnson scored 3342 points in the event to finish fourth overall in the event and good for the seventh most in school history. She opened her day with a flying to a third place finish in the 60m hurdles in 8.90 seconds. She struggled a little bit in the high jump finishing ninth 1.53m (5'0.25) but rebounded and finished seventh in the shot put 10.05m (32'11). She finished on a strong note in second place in the long jump after leaping 5.49m (18'0.25).
Robinson secured a fifth place finish after earning 3200 points and the eighth most points in school history. She crossed the line in 9.52 seconds in the 60m hurdles to finish eighth. She would tie with Gray for the win in the high jump after clearing 1.65m (5'5). She finished seventh in the shot put tossing 10.05m (32'11) and jumped for 4.81m (15'9.5) in the long jump.
This trio of Owls will be back in action with the rest of their teammates at the Thundering Herd Invitational on January 29-30 in Huntington, WV.
