Day One Heptahlon Results |
Live Results (Wednesday) Birmingham, Ala. – Dayo Akindele and
Joseph Yates of the Kennesaw State men's track and field team competed in the heptathlon at the Samford Multi Stand Alone Meet on Wednesday January 20 at the Birmingham Crossplex.
"It was a pretty good first day," Director of Track and Field and Cross Country
Andy Eggerth said. "Dayo is learning how the combined event works in action and Joe is putting things together. In the process a couple personal records dropped and multiple KSU top 10 marks. "
In his first ever heptathlon, Akindele finished with a total of 2874 points after four events in heptathlon. He finished fourth in the 60m dash with a time of 7.25seconds. The freshman followed that up by winning the long jump with a jump of 7.01m (23-0). After a fifth place finish in the shot put, Akindele came back and finished third in the high jump event after leaping 1.92m (6-3.5).
Yates struggled in the 60m dash. He finished eighth in the long jump with a leap of 6.23m (20-5.5). His best event of the day came in the shot put. He finished second amongst collegians with a throw of 11.67m (38.3.50). Yates rounded out his day finishing 12
th in the high jump after clearing 1.74m (5.8.50). He totaled 2506 points on day one.
The heptathlon will conclude with the final three heptathlon events and the entire ladies pentathlon beginning at 12:00 pm on Wednesday (Jan.21).
