The Owls came out in the first set with a lot of energy with the crowd behind them. Both teams traded points back and forth until the crucial first set was tied at 23, and

Tech bounced back in the second set to even the match as both teams went in the locker room.
The Owls came out of the break on fire going up 10-1 to take a commanding lead. The Yellow Jackets tried to climb back in it, but the early lead for KSU was insurmountable as they went on to win the set 25-19 and take a 2-1 lead in the match.
In the decisive fourth set there were seven ties, but only three lead changes as the Owls continued to battle back against the Yellow Jackets to eventually clinch the match.

Coach Schunzel on the Milestone Win for KSU Volleyball"First of all I want to thank the fans and the volleyball community for what can only be called an incredible amount of support and atmosphere in that match. While we certainly have not arrived yet as a program, tonight was a mile stone win for Kennesaw State volleyball. When I took this job, I had a vision for what could happen here because of the unbelievable support we get from our administration to all of the great resources that are in place to help our student-athletes succeed. With beating Tech tonight and going 5-0 against Georgia teams this year, I'm so proud to call our team the unofficial state champs this year and that shows just how far we've come in a relatively short period of time."
"I'm obviously so proud of our players and our entire program for the effort we put in tonight and all of this season. While many great things happened tonight on the court, I was ecstatic that when we called timeout trailing 19-23 in the fourth set, I looked our players in the eyes and every kid in that huddle thought we were going to come back and win the match. When I told them to believe, that's exactly what they did and have been doing since the day we took the job at KSU."
