Kennesaw State Team Notes• Kennesaw State swept Elon on Saturday morning at the Popcorn Classic. It is the fifth sweep in nine matches for the Owls this season. KSU is also 3-0 against all of its opponents at home so far this year.
• One of the main reasons that the Owls are off to a hot start this season is because they've beaten teams from the state of Georgia. KSU is 4-0 against in-state opponents beating Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Mercer and Savannah State.
• Setter
Kristi Piedimonte was named to the Popcorn Classic All-Tournament team. This is the second time this season the sophomore has been named to an All-Tournament team. She was also named to the Kennesaw State Invitational All-Tournament team.
• Piedimonte has been averaging 10.10 assists per set this season as she currently has 303 through 31 sets played. Last season, Piedimonte averaged 8.77 assists per set.
• After three weeks of competition, KSU leads the Atlantic Sun in hitting percentage at .269 and in opponents hitting percentage at .148.
• Freshman
Sydni Shelton is second in the A-Sun hitting .355 with 80 kills. On 183 attacks, she has only made 15 errors this season. Shelton is third on the team in kills.
•
Anaiah Boyer is currently first on the team in kills with 89 and second on the team in digs with 68. Against Georgia State, Boyer had two career highs finishing with 19 kills and 18 digs.
• The Owls have a balanced attack this season as three outside hitters have at least 80 kills on the season. The leader is Boyer at 89, but
Kelly Marcinek is right behind her with 84 and Shelton is third with 80.
•
Katarina Morton leads the team with 112 digs on the season and is averaging 4.48 digs per set. She has led the team in digs every match she has played this season and has eclipsed at least 15 digs in the last five matches. Against Georgia Southern, Morton finished with 21 digs in the match. It was the 11th time in her career that she finished with at least 20 digs.
• The four freshman have seen extensive action on the court this season. They have all played in at least eight of the nine non-conference matches.
Next UpThe Owls have one more non-conference opponent before starting Atlantic Sun play against Georgia Tech. KSU will look to go a perfect 5-0 against teams from Georgia. The game is at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 18. It will be shown on A-Sun TV.
