PULLMAN, Wash. – Art Eckman, who joined the Kennesaw State Department of Athletics in 2009 and currently serves as a special assistant, was inducted into The Murrow Hall of Achievement at Washington State University on Thursday (April 2). Eckman was honored along with Rick Boyce and Chris Hampel.

The Murrow Alumni Hall of Achievement recognizes the accomplishments of outstanding alumni of The Edward R. Murrow College of Communication, and showcases the diversity of communication fields in which they have distinguished themselves.

Their achievements provide inspiration for Murrow College students, and serve to elevate the college, Washington State University and the broader communication industry.

Eckman, a 1965 graduate of The Edward R. Murrow College of Communication, joined Kennesaw State Athletics after more than four decades in broadcasting.  Most recognized for being the voice of ESPN's coverage of Supercross and Motocross, he established himself as one of the most versatile broadcasters in the business covering more than 20 different sports.

After beginning his career as a sports anchor and sports director in Portland, his career flourished as a play-by-play announcer, color analyst, studio host, and reporter. Twice the National Sportswriters/Sportscasters Association recognized him with Sportscaster of the Year honors. In 2010 he was inducted into the Portland Interscholastic League Sports Hall of Fame.

A fixture at the national level during a 20-year career at ESPN, he became a local household name during 13 years as sports director at Atlanta's WXIA-TV.  The National Association of Television Sportscasters awarded him their Diamond trophy.

Along the way, Eckman has been a part of several national sports organizations including the Oakland Raiders, San Francisco Giants, Atlanta Hawks, Atlanta Dream, Houston Rockets (and San Diego) and the Oakland Stompers.

While at KRON-TV in San Francisco he was a member of an Emmy award winning news team and was honored with a Kennedy Foundation National Award.

Eckman continues to work in broadcasting, serving as co-host for Inside the Owls Nest, a monthly internet show that features Kennesaw State Athletics, and will serve as the radio sideline reporter for Kennesaw State's the inaugural football season this fall.
