KSU moves to 31-16 and 12-7 in the A-Sun after having its 10-game conference win streak snapped by the Bisons, who improve to 25-23 and 10-6 in the league.
"We had a rough night tonight," said head coach
Tory Acheson. "
Logan Viers pitched very well, but she was one of very few highlights. Give Lipscomb credit, they pitched very well and did what they had to do. The good news is that tomorrow is a new day and I am confident we will bounce back."
It was a pitcher's duel in the day's first game as both teams combined for just one run and seven hits. Lipscomb scored the game's only run on a homer that just made it over the left center field fence in the bottom of the fourth inning and then went on for the 1-0 victory.
The Owls totaled three hits, with junior
Megan Veringa, redshirt-sophomore
Courtney Sutter and junior
Missy Perkowski delivering singles, while the Bisons tallied four hits in the game.
Sophomore
Logan Viers (8-4) had a strong outing despite taking the loss after allowing just one run on four hits in six innings of work.
Kelly Young (13-13) earned the win after holding the Owls scoreless on three hits and striking out 10 in a complete game effort.
The Owls grabbed an early 1-0 lead as senior
Natalie Rhodes opened game two with a lead-off double, before being scored on a single through the right side from Veringa.
The 1-0 advantage would not last long as the Bisons plated eight runs on eight hits, including a pair of triples, to go ahead 8-1 in the second. A two-run home run in the third frame then moved the score to 10-1 in favor of the home team.
Lipscomb sealed the 13-1 win with three scores in the bottom of the fourth.
KSU registered three hits and an error in the game, with Veringa posting a hit and an RBI, while Rhodes recorded a hit and a run.
Senior
Paige Mathews (12-5) took the loss after giving up seven earned runs on seven hits in an inning and two-thirds.
Tanner Sanders (12-1) earned the win after allowing just on earned run on three hits in five innings.
The Owls will look to rebound as they wrap up the 2015 regular season with the series finale against Lipscomb on Sunday (April 26) at 3 p.m. ET at Draper Diamond in Nashville, Tenn.
