NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Kennesaw State softball team wrapped the 2015 regular season with a 4-1 setback to Lipscomb in the finale of the two teams' Atlantic Sun Conference series on a chilly Sunday (April 26) afternoon at Draper Diamond.

The Owls finish the 2015 regular season with a 31-17 overall record and a 12-8 mark in conference action and will wait to see what seed and opponent they will have in the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship later this week with the conclusion of A-Sun play. The A-Sun Championship will be held at the FGCU Softball Complex in Fort Myers, Fla., on May 6-9.

"While we are disappointed in the outcome this weekend, I am very proud of this team," said head coach Tory Acheson. "We learned a lot about our weaknesses and now we have 10 days to work on those things in preparation for the A-Sun tournament. When I think of where we were when we started this season to where we are now I am very pleased with our progress. This is a special team and I feel like we will be ready to make a statement at the tournament."

The Bisons (26-23, 11-6) struck first in the third after a one-out triple was scored on a single to left center field, before adding to their lead in the next frame with a solo home run to right center field.

KSU got a run back in the top of the fourth as sophomore Lauren Bennett struck out swinging, but reached on a throwing error from Bisons catcher Laura Dukes. Junior Kara Chambers, who led off the inning with a double to right center field, then scored on the play to bring the Owls within 2-1.

Three-straight singles with two outs then stretched the Bisons' edge to 4-1 in the bottom of the fifth, with the Owls unable to rally in the final two innings of the game.

The Owls registered three hits in the contest, while the Bisons totaled seven hits and an error in the win. Chambers, senior Natalie Rhodes and redshirt-sophomore Courtney Sutter each collected a hit on Sunday for KSU.

Sophomore Logan Viers (8-5) dropped the game after allowing two earned runs on four hits in four innings of action, while senior Paige Mathews also saw action and gave up two earned runs on three hits in two innings.

Kelly Young (14-13) earned win after limiting the Owls to just one unearned run on three hits and striking out 10 in a complete game effort.

After wrapping up the regular season this weekend, the Owls will have a week off before heading south to Fort Myers, Fla., for the 2015 Atlantic Sun Conference Softball Championship, held at the FGCU Softball Complex on May 6-9.
