Rock Hill, S.C. – The Kennesaw State baseball team dropped the rubber game Sunday (March 15) afternoon against Winthrop University, 11-4. Despite home runs from Kal Simmons and Brennan Morgan, the Owls (9-8) fell to the Eagles (15-5) at the Winthrop Ballpark in front of 387 fans.

The Owls scattered all six of their hits in the first three innings, jumping out to a quick 4-0 lead in the series finale for the non-conference, three-game set.

Kennesaw State –who entered the game leading the Atlantic Sun with 15 home runs—added to its total when Simmons drove a pitch over the left field wall for the game's first run. Simmons, who finished 1-for-4 on the day with an RBI and a run scored, is tied in the A-Sun with five homers. In fact, the junior shortstop has hit a home run in each of the Owls' five weekend series.

The Owls continued to be aggressive at the dish early, plating a pair of runs in the top of the second to extend their lead to 3-0. Junior Justin Motley –who hails from Marietta, Georgia—, and reached base safely six of seven times in yesterday's doubleheader finishing 5-for-6 (.833), led off the inning with a single. Motley rounded the bases following a double by Cornell Nixon and an RBI bunt by Drew Davis –which also plated Nixon after a throwing error.

Motley finished the weekend an impressive 6-for-9 (.667) at the plate. He compiled one double and two walks with a run scored to lead KSU offensively. In all, Motley finished the three games with a .778 slugging percentage and a .727 on-base percentage –including 2-for-2 on stolen base attempts.

Leading by three, Kennesaw State added to its lead with a solo home run off the bat of Morgan. It was the third-straight inning the Owls plated at least one run to jump out to a fast 4-0 lead. For Morgan, a Peachtree City, Georgia native, the homer marked his third of the season and 13 RBI in 16 games.

The Eagles, trailing by four heading the bottom of the third, scored 11 runs over the next five innings to secure the game and the series. The Eagles plated five in the bottom of the third, which jumpstarted an 11-run outburst.

Kennesaw State will be back in action with a pair of midweek games next week. The Owls will host in-state rival Georgia Tech on Tuesday, March 17 at 6 p.m., before taking on Western Carolina on the road Wednesday evening.

Season tickets are currently on sale for the full 29-game home schedule at $39 per ticket. Single-game tickets are also available at $6 for adults and $4 for youth (ages 3-12).
