KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State men's tennis team lost a tough 4-3 battle to South Carolina State at Kennworth Park Sunday afternoon.
 
KSU opened the match with wins at the two and three positions in doubles to collect the overall doubles point for the Owls.
 
Manuel Castellanos and Alejandro Valencia completed their doubles match with a 6-1 win over Stanislav Baco and Soufiane Mouline at No. 2.
 
The No. 3 doubles team consisting of Evan Holvoet and Simon Pritchard were also victorious in their 6-1 win over Jakub Vitek and Edgar Diaz.
 
The Owls recorded two wins in singles action, with Pritchard defeating Rodney Carey 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 and Castellanos finishing strong at No. 3 with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Baco.
 
Valencia and Holvoet each put up a great effort by taking their matches into tiebreaker sets, but neither finished on top.
 
"We started really strong by winning the doubles point but it was not enough," said head coach Eduardo Rincon. "We are motivated to keep working and improving and we look forward to a great week of practice as we prepare for Miami next weekend."
 
The Owls are now 1-3 on the season and will be back in action Friday Feb. 13 at 12 p.m. ET to take on Miami in Coral Gables, Fla.
