KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State men's basketball team wrapped up its four game home stand with a 67-51 loss to the North Florida Ospreys.
I thought it was our best first half that we've played this year," head coach
Jimmy Lallathin said. "Going in defensively we were hitting our assignments and doing exactly what was asked. In the second half, we lost our focus and assignments. That's the number one offense in the second half and they showed it. They didn't make any adjustments offensively, but we just gave them to many easy baskets. We have continue to work in practice to make those opportunities count."
Nigel Pruitt led the Owls with a double-double finishing with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
The Ospreys opened up a seven-point lead in the first seven minutes in the game, but the Owls started to chip away.
KSU used a 9-0 run to get their first lead sparked by good defense and a couple of layups from
Jordan Jones. After a three pointer by Pruitt, the Owls went up 22-19 with 4:31 remaining in the opening half.
Kennesaw State took a 29-27 lead into the break.
In the second half, second place North Florida (16-11, 8-2) raised the defensive intensity and it led to a big run. After an
Orlando Coleman jumper at the 19:29 mark, the Owls were held scoreless for the next eight minutes allowing the Ospreys to go up 50-29.
The Owls outrebounded UNF 41-35 in the game and finished with 15-second chance points.
KSU's bench also outscored North Florida's 18-15.
With the loss, the Owls move to 9-19 overall and 3-7 in conference.
Next weekend, the Owls will hit the road and play Florida Gulf Coast on Thursday, February 19 at 7 p.m.
