BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – On a night where Yonel Brown eclipsed the 1,000 point mark for his career scoring 26 against the Indiana Hoosiers, the Kennesaw State Owls lost to the Indiana Hoosiers 99-72.

Needing 15 points in one of his favorite places to play at Assembly Hall, Brown made a layup while getting fouled and then hit the free throw with 16:42 remaining in the game to reach the 1,000 points mark.

Not only was that a big shot for Brown personally, but it got the Owls within seven points of the Hoosiers early in the second half. The Owls kept it within ten points for the next few minutes, until Indiana used a 15-2 run to grab a 19-point lead with 7:14 remaining.

Although Kennesaw State couldn't recover from the Hoosiers second half run, they did respond to a run by the Hoosiers in the first half. After Indiana took an 18-point lead the Owls went on an 11-2 run capped by a steal by Brown and Kendrick Ray laid it in on a fast break to get within seven. The run forced IU to use a timeout with 2:07 remaining.

Along with Brown, Ray poured in 22 points for the game.

Now, Kennesaw State will head home for a three game home stand that starts with in-state rival the Mercer Bears on December 30.

Coach Skinner on getting down early, but trying to stay in the game…
"We stuck with the things that we were doing.  We executed well and showed some patience on offense.  Through the execution, we were able to score a few baskets, and that took them out of their transition game.  They would have to go against our half-court defense and at times we were able to get stops.  Then we made a couple mistakes that let them really widen the gap.  I think the mistakes really showed our immaturity.  We have to be a little more mature in those situations.  We knew we were doing well, and then we got anxious.  You have to credit Indiana because they don't give in and they continue to fight.  They did not crumble even though we made an effort to come back.  Once they started to stretch it out, their transition game was effective. They are very good in transition."
- Kennesaw State Head Coach Al Skinner

Notes
- Yonel Brown is the first player to have 1,000 points since Delbert Love reached the mark two seasons ago.
- This is the second time this season that Brown and Kendrick Ray have each had 20-plus points. The other game was against Elon.
- The game with Indiana caps the six high-major teams that the Owls had on the schedule this season.
- The 17 assists that KSU had were the most they have had in a game this season. It's also the second game in a row where the team has had more assists than turnovers.
