Video SCOUTING ELON
Elon sits at 3-3 with wins against Charlotte, Belmont Abby and Mount St. Mary's.
The Phoenix are led by freshman Dainan Swoope, who averages 12.7 points per game. The senior leadership comes from Tanner Samson. He scored his 1,000th career point in Elon's last game and is approaching the top mark in program history in three pointers made.
Elon is led by Matt Matheny. He's in his seventh year as head coach.
THE ALL-TIME SERIES VERSUS ELON
The Owls and Phoenix have faced off one time before. It came last year, when Elon clipped the Owls 67-65 in Kennesaw, Georgia.
Floor GeneralAfter leading the team averaging 15.2 points per game a season ago,
Yonel Brown has had a really strong start to the season. Through seven games, he's leading the team averaging 16.3 points per game. He's been in double figures in six of seven games and has led the team in four of the seven games.
Along with being the floor general, Brown also rarely comes off the floor. He has played 270 minutes through seven games averaging 38.6 per game. The 270 minutes is third most in the country. Brown has played all 40 minutes in four of the seven games.
Leading at HalftimeAfter the Jaguars took a six-point lead in the first half, the Owls held them to only five points the final eight minutes outscoring them 16-5 to take a five-point lead into the break. It was the first game this season that the Owls have lead at halftime.
Playing with the lead, Kennesaw State came out of the locker room and took control of the game for their first win of the season.
Willams Provides Presence InsideFor the season, he is averaging 8.1 rebounds per game and has had double-digit boards in two of the six games. The 8.1 boards per game is the third best average in the A-Sun. He is also second in the A-Sun averaging 3.43 per game.
Coming into the season, he only had 15 career rebounds in his time at Toledo.
Early Season AwardsYonel Brown was named to the Preseason Atlantic Sun All-Conference team and has shown why he was voted onto the team early on in the season.
After the opening game of the season, Brown was named the Co-Atlantic Sun Player of the Week after his 34 point and 10 rebound performance against Alabama. He shared the award with Dallas Moore, who scored 26 points and had 10 rebounds in North Florida's season opening win against Illinois.
He was also named to the Legends Classic Subregional All-Tournament Team after posting 19 points against IUPUI and then having his second double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds against Belmont.
Ray Provides SparkAfter redshirting last season because of the NCAA transfer rules,
Kendrick Ray has been second on the team averaging 13.4 points per game. He has led the team in scoring in three games with one of those being a 25-point performance against LSU.
