SCOUTING ARIZONA STATE

Arizona State has started the season 1-1 after losing its season opener to Sacramento State and then bouncing back and beating a tough Belmont team.

Through two games, Gerry Blakes leads the Sun Devils averaging 17.5 points after scoring 13 against Sacramento State and then 22 in the big win over Belmont.

ASU is led by first year head coach and former Duke Blue Devils star Bobby Hurley. He came from Buffalo, where he led them to the NCAA Tournament a season ago.

THE ALL-TIME SERIES VERSUS ARIZONA STATE

This will be the first time that Kennesaw State will play ASU.

Starting off Strong

Senior point guard Yonel Brown started the year off strong for the Owls as he scored 34 points against the Tide. Brown was one of 12 players to score over 30 points in the season opener around the country. The 34 points was the second most by a player around the country during the opening games and was only behind Davidson's Jack Gibbs, who had 35 points.

It is the third time in his career that he has had a 30-point game for KSU. Brown went 4-9 from behind the arc and was 8-8 from the free throw line. Brown also collected 10 boards for his first career double-double.

Ray Back in Action
Kendrick Ray saw his first action in an Owls uniform after sitting out a year after transferring from Quinnipiac. Ray got off to a slow start, but heated up in the second half scoring 15 of his 17 points. He also grabbed five boards.

Preseason All-Conference
Yonel Brown was voted to the Atlantic Sun Preseason All-Conference team. Last season, Brown was third in the A-Sun averaging 15.2 points per game. He also led the conference in free throw percentage at 90 percent going 135 for 150 from the charity stripe. As a team, KSU was picked to finish in a tie for seventh with Stetson.

Staying on the Floor
Brown played all 40 minutes against the Tide in the season opener. Last season, he led the Atlantic Sun averaging 37.2 minutes per game. Brown played in 11 games last season where he never came off of the floor for the Owls.

Settling into the Action
After the first ten minutes of the game, Alabama was leading 21-5. In the final 30 minutes of the game, the Owls beat the Tide 59-54. In the second half, the Tide had a small edge outscoring the Owls 34-32.
