Florida Gulf Coast is tied with KSU currently at 2-1 early in the conference season. After finishing second in the conference during the regular season last year, the Eagles lost their starting setter, middle blocker and libero.
Stetson has dropped its opening three matches in A-Sun play and will be looking to get back on track this weekend at home.
Kennesaw State Team Notes• With the win against North Florida, Kennesaw State has matched their win total last season at 10. The Owls finished the non-conference season at 8-3 and got off to the best start in school history at 6-0.
• The Owls have only had two true road matches this season against Georgia State and Valparaiso. KSU was 1-1 in those contests beating the Panthers while losing to Valpo. The team is 3-1 in neutral site matches.
• This season, KSU has yet to lose in the fourth or fifth set. The Owls have come back from three 2-1 deficits this season to win in five sets and have closed out both matches they were leading 2-1 in four.
• Freshman outside hitter
Sydni Shelton has been named A-Sun Player of the Week once and Freshman of the Week twice for her strong play so far this season. She leads the team with 143 kills hitting .331.
• Shelton's hitting percentage is fourth best in the A-Sun and is the second best outside hitter hitting percentage in the league. Shelton has had two matches this season where she has at least 17 kills with zero errors. The first one came against Jacksonville State when she had 17 kills and the second one came against USC Upstate when she had 23 kills.
• Kennesaw State currently leads the A-Sun in hitting percentage at .241. They also lead the league in opponents hitting percentage at .169.
• A big part of leading the A-Sun in opponent hitting percentage is being second in the league in blocks. The Owls average 2.06 blocks per set. In conference matches, KSU is tops in the A-Sun with 37.0 blocks in three matches averaging 3.08 blocks per set.
•
Katarina Morton averaged 5.0 digs a set last weekend following up her 31 dig performance against USC Upstate. Against Jacksonville, Morton had 18 digs in three sets and against North Florida, she had 17 digs in four sets.
• Against North Florida, the Owls were very balanced as three players had double-digit kills and three players had double-digit digs. That type of balance has happened two other times this season against Georgia Tech and Georgia State.
• In the 10 wins that the Owls have had this season, they have swept five of their opponents. In Schunzel's first two seasons, his team has had six sweeps combined.
Next UpKSU will continue A-Sun play on the road as they travel to NJIT for a match on Friday, October 17 and then play Lipscomb on Sunday, October 19.
