KENNESAW, Ga. – Cornelia Sochor's goal less than four minutes into the first overtime period lifted No. 5 seed Stetson to a 3-2 victory over No. 4 seed Kennesaw State in the first round of the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament Friday (Oct. 30) at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.

With the win, the Hatters (10-7-1) advance to the second round of the A-Sun Conference semifinals where they will face top-seed and host Florida Gulf Coast Friday (Nov. 6) in Fort Myers, Fla.

The Owls, who advanced to the conference tournament for the fourth consecutive year, conclude their season with a 6-10-3 record.

"We dug ourselves a hole early on and just didn't play very well the first 15 to 20 minutes, went two goals behind and we had to keep battling to play ourselves back into the game," head coach Rob King said. "I was very pleased with the effort. It's a tough way to start off if you give up a couple goals in a championship game. But we kept fighting and final got the goal to get back into the game.

"In the second half we were very dominant, we outshot them to 13-3 and equalized and had several chances to put the game away in regulation," King added.  "We weren't just quite clinical enough in front of goal and then it can quite obviously be a cruel game if you don't put your chances away."

Stetson sophomore forward Sarah Collins gave the Hatters an early 2-0 advantage, scoring goals on a pair of headers at the 4:31 and 7:52 marks.

The score remained 2-0 until KSU freshman defender Carly Pressgrove converted on a corner kick service from Ida Hepsoe in the 40th minute.

The Owls knotted the score at 2-2 when Abby Roth received a corner kick from Hepsoe and found the back of the net at the 58:09 mark. Hepsoe was credited with second assist of the day and eighth of the season.

Sochor received the ball from the far side and drilled a shot past a diving Ashley Zambetti and inside the far post for the winning goal.

After being outshot 8-4 in the first half, Kennesaw State finished the match with a 17-12 shot advantage, and scored on two of six corner kick attempts.
