Editor's Note: Redshirt-junior quarterback Trey White recently provided a journal on his life as a member of the football team during its inaugural season. He provides insight into his daily schedule.Â
A Day in the Life of Trey White5:35 a.m.: Monday morning arrives quickly as my alarm goes off at 5:30 a.m. My teammate and roommate,
Johnny Yoder, and I are more than thrilled to be waking up so early since we both consider ourselves night owls. Off to weekday morning meetings that are scheduled for 6 a.m.
Â
5:43 a.m.: Johnny (Yoder) and I arrive across the street from the football facility along with the rest of our teammates. Luckily for me, the walk from my crib (house) to the parking lot across from the football offices is only about a five minute hike and a couple hundred yards.
Â
5:59 a.m.: As I sit down in my chair in the football offices with my teammates –consisting of other quarterbacks and B-backs (running backs) — we kill time imitating coaches and other players before the meeting begins. Coaches (Quarterbacks Coach
Cody Worley and running backs coach
Tim Glanton) walk in and a film session begins for about an hour.
Â
Â
7 a.m.: The offense breaks from film and position meetings. A 15-20 minute walk-through behind the football facility begins.
Â
7:30 a.m.: After the walk-through finishes up, I drive over to Fifth Third Bank Stadium where football treatment is necessary. The treatment trailer is located behind the stadium near your favorite spot before kickoff –Eat Street! The sports medicine facility that was originally located under the stadium is being renovated, so for now the Owls use a trailer that is fully equipped to be an efficient training room. I spent about an hour in the training room getting my body prepared for today's work on the field.
Â
8:40 a.m.: After treatment, I return back to my house and make a smoothie for breakfast. Last year, with the help from strength coach Jim Kiristy and personal coach Chris Hixson, I began adding smoothies to my diet to help my body retain important nutrients in order to stay fit and healthy. My smoothies vary from day to day, but usually consist of vitamin juices, half a banana, strawberries, mixed berries, and a splash of water.
Â
Â
9:30 a.m. – 1:45 p.m.: Ah class…I am a finance major in the Coles College of Business and classes take the rest of the morning and go into the early afternoon. I am deep into my major and went to investments and strategic management today. After several hours of class, I order Jimmy Johns – and of course, believing I keep Jimmy Johns in business, I order a No. 9 (Italian Night Club with NO onions is the only sandwich to order). I've been told I order it a lot.
Â
2 p.m.: Practice quickly approaches as the sun is due west as I book it to the stadium. Practice begins around 3 p.m., but parking, dressing, getting taped, and the walk to the perch takes some time.
Â
2:30 p.m.: After waiting in line, I always go to head athletic trainer Phillip Young to get my ankles taped. Every player on the team is required to either wear ankle braces or have their ankles taped.
Â
Â
Â
6 p.m.: After a long practice, I'm back in the locker room with my teammates. Yoder is complaining about conditioning after practice. Unfortunately for Yoder, his locker is between all the quarterbacks, so he gets "roasted" Â often by the group. The banter between the guys shows the comradery between the group.
Â
7 p.m.: Teammates
Zach Mitchler,
Matt Warren,
Miles McGinty, and I go eat dinner at Chipotle and talk a lot of smack concerning the St. Pius X and Blessed Trinity rivalry. Food was great as always, and so was the chicken.
Â
8-10 p.m.: Because I'm a student-athlete, I use this time to study and complete homework for school. I usually like to jam to Foo Fights, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Talking Heads, Phish, and Widespread Panic, just to name a few, while I study.
Â
Â
11 p.m.: Back in bed 17 hours later. I like to fall asleep with the TV on and watching ESPN or a movie. The timer is set to automatically turn off. At 5:30 a.m. the next morning the alarm goes off again and it and we're back at it for another day and time to E.A.T (Effort, Attitude, Toughness)! E.A.T. is our team moniker that we apply in everything we do.
