The second set was close all the way until the very end when JU grabbed a 22-18 lead. The Owls responded with a 5-1 run of their own to tie the game at 23. KSU held off one set point to tie the score at 24, but the Dolphins won two in a row to take a 2-0 lead at the break.

Coach Schunzel on his Team's Play Against the Dolphins"That match can be summed up pretty easily. The team on the other side of net played every facet of that game more aggressively than our team did. Jacksonville didn't play perfect, but they played with a purpose and on a mission and it showed. Our team, on the other hand, was just on the court for way too much of the match. To put it simply, we played just ok, both physically and mentally. We served and passed it ok. We attacked it ok and we defended ok, and unfortunately, too many of our players were fine with that. Playing just ok doesn't give you a great chance to win conference matches. We don't need to play great all the time, but we need to play better and more aggressively than we did tonight. We need to learn that winning in a strong conference like ours is very hard. It takes big, smart, aggressive swings from your attackers. It takes strong leadership from numerous positions. It takes making some big plays after 20. It takes playing free and loose and allowing yourself to let go and just go for it. Tonight JU had those things and we didn't. We will learn one way or another, and tonight we learned the hard way. It certainly doesn't get any easier from here on out, and I know that we have the right people on this roster, but we better learn how this works real quick and figure out the level at which we need to train and compete at."
