KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State men's basketball team lost a shootout against the Lipscomb Bisons 91-77 on Saturday, January 17.
Â
"We can't give up 91 points and expect to win the game," head coach
Jimmy Lallathin said. "It comes down to one thing and one thing only and that's we have to defend. It's a level of pride of finding a guy and guarding a guy. That's what it comes down to defensively. Offensively, 77 points is a solid output. We got to the free throw line the way we've been talking about. We'll take the positives away from this and continue to get better from the top down."
Â
Damien Wilson once again set a career high in points as well as having his second career double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds.
Â
"Damien Wilson was tremendous," Lallathin added. "He continues to get better and better every game. I thought he stayed in character as well as anybody throughout the game. We expect him to be a scoring, slashing, athletic guy on the boards and he did that."
Â
Yonel Brown also reached the 20-point mark for the second game in a row finishing the game with 21 making 13 of 14 free throws.
Â
Wilson came out aggressive and put Kennesaw State up early sinking two free throws and finishing a layup to go up 4-0.
Â
The Owls grabbed their biggest lead of eight after Wilson drained a jumper with 14:22 to go in the opening half. After that the Bisons got hot from the outside.
Â
Lipscomb got its first lead of the game when Josh Williams hit one of his eight three pointers on the afternoon to go up 21-19, but Brown answered right back with a three of his own to put the Owls back up by one.
Â
Wilson pushed the run to 8-0 after getting an old-fashioned three-point play and hitting another jumper as the Owls went back up by six with 9:38 left in the first half.
Â
The Bisons caught fire from there hitting four threes with Williams making three of them to go on a 19-1 run over the next seven minutes to push their lead to 40-28.
Â
The Owls went into the locker room down 47-36 after
Bernard Morena hustled for an offensive rebound and beat the buzzer with a layup.
Â
Delbert Love struck first after the break to get the lead to single digits at 47-38, but the Bisons continued with their hot shooting making two more threes to push their lead to 15.
Â
KSU got within 10 points two times, but Lipscomb's offense was too much. The Bisons shot 14-27 from behind the arc for the game.
Â
KSU sank 31 of 41 free throws in the game. The Owls also outrebounded Lipscomb 41 to 39.
