MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – It was a back and forth battle as the Kennesaw State soccer team suffered an overtime setback to South Florida, falling to the Bulls 1-0 on an overcast Sunday afternoon (Sept. 7) at the Blue Raider Classic in Hayes Soccer Stadium.

"It was a very even game," said head coach Rob King. "There was nothing between the two teams. We had an opportunity right at the end of regulation to put them away and did not capitalize on it. It went to overtime and the ball broke loose to them and they tucked it home. It was a great game and by far the best we have played this year. It gives us really good stuff to build on as we go into two good teams in Furman and Memphis next weekend."

In the evenly-matched contest, both teams moved the ball throughout the midfield with neither team yielding many opportunities in the opponent's final third.

Late in regulation, Kennesaw State (2-3-1) had its best chance of the match as sophomore Maggie Gaughan sent in a cross from the left flank that was just out of the reach of redshirt-sophomore Danielle Gray and collected by USF goalkeeper Thordis Aikman.

With neither team able to score in regulation, the match moved to overtime. The Bulls (3-2-1) then put away the only score of the contest with just two minutes remaining in the opening 10-minute period of overtime. Off of a service from the right flank into the six-yard box in the 98th minute, USF's Christina Ferral tapped the ball to Leticia Skeete, who finished past sophomore goalkeeper Olivia Sturdivant for the game-winning goal.

The Owls posted six shots, including one shot on goal, with senior Nicole Calder and Gray each registering two shots in the match.

Sturdivant made a pair of saves as the Bulls totaled 15 shots, but only three on frame.

Aikman notched one save for the Bulls as both teams combined for 22 fouls and four USF players were shown yellow cards in the physical match-up.

The Owls now return to Kennesaw following two weeks away from the friendly confines of Fifth Third Bank Stadium to open a three-match homestand, starting with a 7 p.m. ET contest against Furman on Friday (Sept. 12).
