KENNESAW, Ga. –
The Kennesaw State volleyball team finished off the Kennesaw State Invitational hosting AVCA No. 7 Purdue in the Convocation Center. The Owls fought hard, but ended up falling in three sets (23-25, 14-15, 13-25) to the Boilermakers.

"We played in three really competitive matches with a ton of fan support," head coach Keith Schunzel said. "I can't thank the crowds enough. The energy and atmosphere in this gym is what college sports is all about. You never want to go 1-2 in your home tournament, but we lost a heartbreaker last night, came back this morning and didn't play great but came out with a win. Then we came out and played a competitive match against a Top 10 team in the nation and had a solid showing."

In the first set, KSU went shot for shot with Purdue and went on a seven shot run to take a 14-11 lead that forced Purdue to take their first timeout of the tournament. Towards the end of the set, the Owls held off three set points to cut the score to 23-24, but the Boilermakers held on in the end.

After holding off KSU in the first set, Purdue elevated their game in the second. They grabbed the lead early and went on to take the set 25-14. The Owls had several mini-runs led by All-Tournament selection Fanise Cannon. She led the Owls on a 5-0 run in the middle of the set.

In the third set, freshman Anaiah Boyer picked up three of her eight kills in the match while hitting .300. Purdue closed out the Owls in the set 25-13.

Middle blocker Rachel Taylor got her first career start and played very well. She finished with three kills and three blocks.

Kristi Piedimonte had 21 assists, six kills and five digs. She finished the tournament with 112 assists averaging a little over 37 a game.

Katarina Morton once again led the way in digs with 13.
