KENNESAW, Ga. – After losing a tough five set match last night against Elon, the Kennesaw State volleyball team was faced with another tough test against UNC Asheville, but battled back from a 2-1 set deficit to win in five sets (23-25, 25-22, 20-25, 25-17, 15-11).
In the fourth set with the Owls trying to stay alive and the score tied at 13,
Katarina Morton stepped up to serve. She rattled off two aces and then the Owls stretched out their lead to 19-13. With the comfortable lead, KSU closed out the set 25-17.
Both teams traded points in the fifth set until the score was tied at seven a piece.
Kristi Piedimonte gave the Owls a two-point lead on some aggressive serving and forced UNC Asheville to take a timeout. KSU maintained their lead at 13-11 and
Anaiah Boyer and Piedimonte got back-to-back kills to win the match.
Piedimonte followed up her first career double double with another very strong match. She had 52 assists, 10 digs and seven kills.
Kelly Marcinek and
Fanise Cannon both hit over .400 and finished with 21 and 20 kills. Cannon added 12 digs as well.
Morton led the team with 13 digs and also had eight assists and four aces.
This win makes the Owls 4-2 on the season and 1-1 in the Kennesaw State Invitational. They will play one more match tonight against Purdue at 7:30. Tonight is Student Appreciation Night and the first 250 fans to come to the match will receive free cell phone wallets.
